Do they not realize that Fannie and Freddie guarantees about 97% of all mortgages in the united states? Or do they think the majority of Americans are stupid? The problem with Fannie and Freddie were that they were a private companies with a responsibility to maximize their stockholders profit. Why can't republicans just admit that capitalism failed and it took government to save it. So before you take about Fannie and Freddie come out with a policy on how you will deal with the mortgages on their books, this policy can not be done in a few months
