It's not like either side can prove their point to the satisfaction the other side requires.
And even if god exists, what does it matter what we think! He's going to exist regardless. If he doesn't exist, then all the more reason to focus on the real world and what we can control. Since we don't know for sure if he does or doesn't, I think it's sensible to assume he doesn't, because that way we at least won't rely on false hope. If god exists, everything's going as planned anyway.
