why do people stop to look at car accidents?

and deformities and any other kind of morbid thing. you're horrified, but at the same time can't look away. what's the psychological explanation for this?

I guess they feel really sorry for the person but are at the same time glad it isn't them. Like yesterday, my friend and i were driving to school when we saw a car that was smashed into a telegraph pole surounded by ambulances, police etc. It was a red p-plater just like us, we both felt sorry for her and thought about how scary that would be but at the same time we were like, gee glad it wasn't us. Sounds kinda bad, but i think it's true. People are always comparing themselves with others and are sort of glad when bad experiences happen to someone other than themselves, no matter how sympathetic the are towards that person.

cuz they are curious , or want to help, or are worried about the people who might got hurt and also cuz it makes a big noise and if u didnt stop 4 a while n look at the accident 1 of the cars could hit u n u wudnt be prepared to run away.
