Why do people see the military as a bad place to join?

A place to get killed? I mean some people are like 'once you join the Army or Marines you are going to die'? I mean come show a little respect to those brave men and women and quit saying such a thing like that. Also some say when you go to Iraq or Afghanistan you'll for sure die. I mean correct me if im wrong but I've noticed that crime rates are going up, murder rates are going up, and look at all the gang violence thats going on in the U.S.

People have their opinions, and sensationalism is through the roofs. Though, you're right about the latter part. One thing I told people that were worried whenever we were permanently stationed in "dangerous" area is that we'd be in more danger back home with the gangbangers.

5 1/2 years of duty. Out of the military in December of 2008, and I've already witnessed more deaths at home--in a more peaceful part of the South--than my entire time in.

Because all too many people see service in the Military as somehow demeaning. The fact that these same people would never consider joining and would probably flee the country were the draft still in place and they received their notice, never enters their arguments.

You are absolutely correct about the rising crime rates, but those same people are psychologically incapable of making that same observation.

As for the bit about "If you join the Army, Navy, etc., you're going to die". They don't take into account that you could die just getting out of bed and are much more likely to die in an auto accident than in Military service.

Edit: Hey Halsca. Vietnam was John Kennedy and Lyndon Johnsons war. Nixon got us out. Of course, if you're a Liberal, you wouldn't have known or acknowleged that.

Because they don't respect what the brave men and women have done for this country. Its usually the librals that hate the military. Can you believe they think anyone that's been in the military could be a terrorist.. they r some stupid people

people say its bad because of fighting for wars and getting killed. and being away from family and friends. but they don't see the real reason because they aren't living it. trust me i lived it being a military brat moving around from base to base, but i don't know how war is like.

They dont? They dont. You won't definatley DIE if you join the army. you have about a 0.5% Chance of dieing by a bullet in teh army. Well thats not true but still the chances are Low. You have a MORE chance of dieing of cancer or a car crash or BOMB more than dieing in Combat.

Look, Im only 12. And im already thinking of joining the Army/Airforce

Most people observe and conceive that USA is at wars with lack of "Moral content",

And "with lack of Moral content" one will not like to Kill or be Killed.
