Why do people only care about what's on the news?

no one gave a flying f*ck about hati for example before it was on the news. then an earthquake and people who have never heard of hati decided it was a good thing to give money. don't get me wrong I think it's kool that people are helping other people, I just think that it sucks that people are so single minded. once new orleans stopped being all over the news people stopped caring. You don't hear about anything going on in new orleans anymore, do you? when was the last time you heard about a major donation fund for them? several years ago. also homeless people aren't on the news. if they were people would be giving money to homeless outreach programs, and people would be singing songs for them and people would be making major donations to help get them off the streets and into warm homes. but no. instead people just assume that every homeless person just needs to get a job like everyone else. in reality, every homless person I know is crazy. They can't keep a job. they're on drugs and alchohol a lot so they can forget how miserable they are, and how horribley people treat them. i think it sucks that people only give money for things they see on the news. frankly it's disgusting. Today, I went out to garage/yard sales and bought some blankets and coats so I could GIVE them to homeless people. what did you do? who did you help?
