Why do people laugh or scoff at me because I want to help the environment?

Why is this seen as funny or "uncool"?
At the end of the day it is no more my planet than anyone elses, and we will ALL have our grandchildren living on it, not just mine. So why do people belittle me for caring?
It seems I would get more respect if I had a "don't care" attitude.
 
They think that one person can't make a difference and they are right.

That is why so many of us are working to preserve the planet.

They don't realize this.

Continue to protect our grand-children's world and you will keep my respect.
 
It is pretty cool to me, what you do. Try not to worry too much. A person who does something good, often has enemies. Don't get distracted from your path only because of some folks who are bored and simply unintelligent(at least in this point).
 
In a word, laziness.

It takes effort to separate trash from recycling, turn off lights, carry your trash to the dumpster instead of throwing it on the ground, wash dishes to minimize use of paper plates, etc. It doesn't take much work, but in the eyes of a lazy person . . .

People build whole justifications for their laziness, calling anyone who is responsible an enviro-nazi among other names. Disregard them. You are doing the right thing. The only downside is that those who are wasteful and those that litter won't be the only ones to suffer the consequences.

The other thing is Americans just don't want to be told what to do. So if you've ever wagged a finger at someone who doesn't recycle, that may have caused some of the scoffing. The problem with the people who think that way is they forget that their rights end where another person's begin, and some of us don't want to walk through their trash.
 
Just ignore them. They don't know what they are doing. If you think you're doing the right thing just continue doing it. Sooner or late they notice your goodness.
 
Only idiots who dont care about life issues because they are too stupid to see the consequences of things laugh at people who try and benefit the community/society..

Helping the environment is a great idea.
 
Mayb this dumb folks haven't realized the importance of your acts. Just ignore them and keep on rollin!

I am just like you, I have already started to use less plastic amidst the weird stares i get in the stores.
