Why do people keep comparing and arguing between Twilight and Harry Potter?

and WHEN did it start???

I'm a PotterFan and a TwiHater, but i do not compare them, i just hate Twilight.
Slimjim, i respect your decision, but there are vampires on Harry Potter, they are mentioned on the 6th book, on the Slug Party.
they don't target similar age groups i guess, HP is for all, boys, girls, adult and teenage. while twilight fans are majority of dim- witted girls, teenagers ans SOME adults. still majority of girls.
 
They're both popular among young crowds. They both have a book series, cult following, and both have had movies made after them. They were both written by women. They both have boy heart throbs.

I think that's enough, don't you think?

Oh, and by the way. The reason I THINK, people compare them. Is because smart people want to show the difference between good books and bad books, good movies and bad movies. I think twilight is the worst thing to happen to the american youth since the tobacco industry. I would never call myself a twihater though. Sounds too nerdish.
 
idk maybe because they're both something totally awesome even though we all know its not possible for something like that to exist but we want it to.

i think its because Robert Pattinson was in a Harry Potter movie though.

The main reason that comes to mind is that both of them started off in the same kind of way : They became very popular series in the literary world and soon so popular that they made it to the big screen. They both blew up when the movies were made, target a somewhat similar age group, and they both deal with the paranormal (magic and things in Harry Potter/Vampires and Werewolves in Twilight). Basically comparing the two is like comparing any other 2 big things... Kinda like Mc Donald's and Burger King, maybe?
 
I think it's because Robert Pattinson (Edward) was in both movies. I can't quite remember the name of the character he played in Goblet of Fire but he was the one killed by Voldemort near the end.
 
I dont know. It makes me made you cant even compare them!!!!!! Just because Rob is in both doesnt mean you can. Guess what he dies in HPGOF!! Harry Potter is about wizards and defeating voldemort. Twilight is a love story between a human and vampire. Are there vampires in Harry Potter? NO!! Dont get me wrong i love both but i hate when people compare them because you just cant! Its not right! Honestly Harry Potter is the best movie/book series and Twilight wont beat it cuz its for the fan girls. Most guys dont like Twilight. Harry Potter wins! Woo for July 15!
 
i think its because both harry potter and twilight were both awesome books(i would know in mydefensee and opinion)and in both their are fictionalcharacterss, and or mythicall creatures such as vampires, were wolfs and others.also because robert pattinson (who is sooooo hot) played in both in twilight he played EDWARD CULLEN and in harry potter he played CEDRIC DIGGORY and other people r just try ing to see witch 1s better . . . hope this helpS
