Why do people hate Scrappy?

Speaking for myself, I dislike him because a lot of the abuse Shaggy and Scooby took was his fault. Just watch any of those seven minute segments.

LOL LOL Scrabby but spelling air so yah.
Um I don't hate him honestly but I can see why.
Scrappy abusing Shaggy and Scooby was one reason.
Another, him hardly giving Shaggy any credit when he deserved it a lot of times.

The one that had existed since the beginning. Fred, Daphne and Velma solving the mystery, while Shaggy and Scooby play the cowardly comic relief. Suddenly, you have this annoying little puppy with an annoying voice and catch phrase who's constantly Leeroy Jenkins-ing everyone's plans.

To quote Lisa Simpson, 'adding a new character is a shameless attempt to boost low ratings', and with that said, Scrappy-Doo is essentially the 'Poochie' of the 'Scooby-Doo' franchise. By the late 70's, the show was becoming tired, and repetitive, so Scrappy was added in hopes that the ratings would improve. While this kept the series going a few years longer, Scrappy pretty much ruined the show's dynamic. Basically, he would instigate the villain they were up against with his usual 'lemme at 'em, I'll splat him' taunts, or encourage Shaggy, and Scooby to 'slat the ghostie' against their will.

Because he had Scooby Doo's head grafted onto a puppy's body, which looked anything but cute. Because he had an annoying voice and spoke clearly, instead of in the doggy-speak of Scooby (which made Scooby one step removed from an actual talking dog, which somehow made him more believable, at least to me). Because he was completely unnecessary. That's why.

I don't know. I think Scrappy might have a point. Can't the Scobby-Doo Detective Agency gets some guts anr try to tackle the Big Bad of the week? I mean it's 5(or more) against 1(or 2). It's always a crook in a suit, anyway.

I used to like Scrappy when I was first under the belief "oh wow! finally Scooby has an ally on his side that's willing to take on the bad guys, and won't back down!"....then I realize he's completely useless, and always gets captured with ease.

He's just annoying.

I always prefered the line up of Shaggy, Scooby, Scrappy and Daphne. That was a good balance and I think it kept the rational exposition down to only one person (Daphne) rather than three of them. I think it also indirectly made Daphne the leader, a much more appealing alternative to uninteresting Fred. It also goes against gender stereotypes, with the three male characters (two animal of course) lead by a female.

So yes I like Scrappy, but I only think he works when Velma and Fred are absent from the show. To be honest I found those two human characters a lot more annoying than Scrappy, because they only seemed to be present in order to provide exposition rather than function as interesting characters.

I'll admit that I kinda liked having Daphne in charge of the group for a while. Mostly because I kinda had a crush on her early on in my life. While she did prove to have some leadership qualities, she was still got in trouble most of the time.

Does anyone else feel like when Daphne returned, she became sort of like a combination of Freddie and Velma?

Because, he changed what people were used to. He seemed like he was the result of marketing to me. All this talk reminds me of the Cartoon Fridays segment where Scrappy was talking about how unpopular he was.
