Why do people get upset with stereo types?

If the general categorization is in fact true.
it's like people calling black people black although some can be light colored. It's a general categorization of true facts. It's not really saying that everyone in that category fits into that stereo type.
For instance. people stereo type mexicans (from mexico) are greedy. I'm mexican american and I know mexicans are generally greedy. It don't offend me any cuz it's true, you're not picking me out specifically calling me greedy. So whats the big deal? Why do people hate the truth? If they hated it why not steer clear of being apart of the stereo type?
 
cuz ppl just dont like being sterio typed some girl got in a fight with me over a guy and i didnt even want the guy, but shes like you like tacos cuz im hispanic and i punchd her in the face cuz thats kinda racist
 
The fact that 'stereotyping' is generalizing is demeaning to say the least... A little intelligence, understanding and compassion can go a long way...
 
The problem with stereotypes is that they are made up of a selection of qualities that apply to one thing. The trouble arises when people associate EVERY quality of a stereotype with one person!

What I mean by this is that a typical stereotype is that gay men are effeminate, into fashion, jump around like little girls, and promiscuous. The problem with this is that very few gay men are completely like this! Yes some are effeminate but not all are. People tend to use the same stereotype for every gay man they see then so in reality it becomes very inaccurate. Stereotypes have existed for decades and realistically times and society have changed yet very few stereotypes have been altered with time.

So in short stereotypes are used to apply to ALL members of a specific group but in general only a very few people fit it completely. I am a gay man but I'm not affeminate, am into fashion but am not promiscuous so the gay stereotype would be false for me.
