Why do people feel it's necessary to rant about social assistance?

I have seen several answers, specifically two posters who feel it is necessary to be heard whenever the term "social assistance" or WIC comes up - Forgive me if I am wrong, but isn't it unfair to assume someone using this services is abusing their priviledge, especially when it is a mother trying to provide nutrition for her infant? I am NOT impressed by the posters who jumped down a womans throat recently, and one who I thought had very valid answers in the past has lost my respect.
Does any one else feel that peoples questions should be answered rather than a judgment made on the individual who asks?
Before someone accuses me of being on social assistance, I am a SAHM, with a Psych major, a diploma in Natural Health Consulting, a diploma in Health and Fitness, a certified Pharmacy Technician, a certified Personal Trainer and I have worked since I was 15 years old. I will return to work when I am ready, and those who think I am not contributing to the economy? Can kiss my butt. My kids come first.
lol - LOVED the rant, Hellcat! I hope you'll be my contact!!!
well put, Hmmmm... ( not sure of how many mmm's... )
teeny-beeny - you misunderstand my statements. What I was saying was that when I choose to return to work it is my decision; I have spent a good deal of time paying for my education, and working in my fields that PAY INTO THE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM. If I chose to apply for assistance to stay at home with my sons, that is MY prerogative. I have all the respect in the world for a mother who can balance both - I can't agree with you more. I however, don't feel that I could, and I do not appreciate being judged for that; Nor have words put in my mouth that I did not say. You claim I implied disrespect, I beg to differ. My kids come before MY job. That's how I PERSONALLY feel in MY OWN situation. To each their own. And when I said diploma, I meant diploma.

I do think it is wrong when a mother takes social assistance, such as WIC, but is still able to pay for internet access. Chances are that the mother on WIC that has internet access also has cable TV and a cell phone. There are people who truly need social assistance, and for them it's good it's there.

While we're talking about being judgmental you say you don't work because your "kids come first." I work full time outside of the home, and my kids also come first. Since you have spent so much of your life in school working towards your degrees, I would think you would understand the merit of a woman-especially a mother-balancing a family and a career.
