why do people discuss so many answer and question on yahoo and other sites?

millions of question are discussed every day and even people reply in full detail,do they get any kind of benefit or just share their knowledge?
 
Man is a social animal.
He cannot live without interaction. This is a way to socialize, whatever else all might say. Most are around to interact - help, answer, ask are all forms of interaction.

I know how people have formed friendship here through these exchanges.

Asking is probably more interesting that google.
 
They could probably get 80% of their answers on Wiki or Google.

I think they want the "human touch" even if it is only virtual.

Wiki won't commiserate with you and Google can't give step by step instructions for bathing your dog.

Also it's the "give and take" aspect with the points...it's like bartering and people enjoy that.

You get to share your knowledge with others if you know what you are talking about. You also get 10 points for best answer if the "asker" of the question feels that you helped them.
 
They just share knowledge. Unless getting a warm feeling inside is a benefit.
