Why do people desire children and complain about exhaustion after having it?

A lot of people, both men and women (especially women) seem to want to have kids. But after having kids, they complain of exhaustion and how tiring and hard it is to raise a child. If it is so hard, what is the main reason for wanting to have kids?

Is it
1. Biological drive?
2. Social pressure ?
3. Desire to increase bonding with partner?
4. Other?

Thanks for all answers in advance!
BTW personally I have no desire for kids.
