Why do people complain about politicians and then vote for the same old crooks?

People go on about how corrupt politicians are, but make no effort whatsoever to determine whether their own representatives are among the corrupt. Forex, they don't know how much money they take from lobbyists or which ones. It's hard to get even the most obviously corrupt ones out of office, the D'Amatos or the DeLays. And people seem to ignore other obvious signs, for example, they vote for pork barrel pols like Senator Stevens who "bring home the bacon" despite the fact that they're the type that's corrupt. At the same time, they're easily riled up by laughably obvious smears, like the claim that Obama is a [Marxist/Muslim/socialist/terrorist sympathizer/racist/Kenyan]. Is it time for people to stop whining and take responsibility for their own credulity?
 
I don't even try to discern. I say they are all corrupt, and the new guys are on their way to corruption, if not there already. Unless the politician can prove to me that they are not corrupt, I do not vote for them. And I check everything they say using factcheck.org.
 
You are correct.
They are corrupt because we allow them to be. If they knew that they would be voted out if we didn't like what they were doing, they would not be corrupt. But people vote for incumbents or follow their party lines no matter what.
 
It would help if the majority of people paid attention to what is going on. It appears they won't change until after they have been had and then it will be to late. They always have the BS excuse that wouldn't happen in America. They are Stupid for not paying attention.
