why do people complain about having anime-influenced art styles?

i see lots of people moan about having anime influences in their art styles and how they're still trying to get out of it,
is there a particular reason for that?

because it is both cliche and stylized. almost everyone these days wants to draw anime. its overdone and unoriginal. plus, these days legitimate art pieces portray real life objects. it has to have dimension, shades, originality etc. if you make your art look anime-ish, your art will not look realistic. it will look more cartoon-y.
but anime is fun to draw on the side

People who first get into art due to anime influences (wow, Naruto/Bleach/similar generic anime show is so cool! I wish I could draw like that) then expose themselves to other artistic influences - i.e. by taking an art course. They then find other artists who use a more realistic style, but often find that after drawing anime for so long they find it hard to draw what they see, this problem occuring mostly with faces (which is argueably the most important aspect). They then blame anime for their inability to draw the way they want.

Also, most industries (except, of course, the manga industry) prefer art styles to be more detailed and 'traditional' western style than anime (although well executed anime styles are acceptable). Movies and video games are examples of this.
