...completely different? Why do some people compare "thousands of years of cross breeding" to genetically modifying organisms?
Cross breeding and recombining one species DNA and adding it to another with the help of bacteria and viruses are two completely different things! When you cross breed animals or cross pollinate plants, you are not able to add foreign genes of a completely different species into the animals or plant. With genetic modification you can add any species that you can think of to a plant--including human genes! Only like plants can cross breed and like animals can be cross bred within the species. And genetic modification can also mean the deletion of genes--not just adding animal, human, or another organism's genes to a fruit or vegetable that we eat.
Why can't I see my question on the board anymore? That was quick!
edit: I mean extraspecially. Interspecial breeding is natural.
Seldon & Big Bro's: I agree. There's a reason why animals and plants can't breed interspecially! But now I guess we're the guinea pigs that will find out what that will do to our health, genes, and our environment.
