BMW/Mercedes for SAME PRICE? I was looking at new 2009 and 2010 cars online today. I was looking at Toyota and some other "middle class" cars and they surprisingly were all in the $30k-40k range.

Why is this surprising? Because I checked BMW, Lexus, and Audi's website and they're selling their lowest-tier cars for $30-$40k as well! Lexus has a great-looking 2010 car that MSRPs for $34k.

So I don't get it. Even my uncle shelled out $36k for a new Toyota SUV a few months ago...he could've gotten the SAME DEAL with a BMW or even a used Lexus SUV (1 year old due to depreciation).

Why don't people buy more BMWs and Lexus' when theyre the same price?

Look at it THIS way. My wife's '01 Camry with full power and air was 18K new. It now has 110,000 miles on it and has NEVER needed ANY kind of repair. We;ve done oil changes and a new timing belt. THAT'S IT!

NO BMW or Mercedes on earth is going to run 110,000 miles without SOMETHING breaking and needing repair.

I don't know where you are shopping, but your price figures are way off.

Not even the top of the line Avalon costs 40K.
