I have heard parents claim that they are unhappy together, but they stay together only for the children. I believe that Continuously fighting is SO much worse for the child of the parents than having divorced parents. Fighting parents teach disrespect to the child, as well as bad relationship skills. It also teaches a child that there is no such thing as love.
I have also heard parents fear that the child will blame the divorce on themselves. If the parents actually talk to their child about why they are getting a divorce there wouldn't be this problem. Not talking to the kid leaves them guessing, and possibly coming to the conclusion that it is their fault.
Kids of fighting parents also have difficulty trusting their parents because of all the tension in the household. They feel lonely and have no one to go to about their problems.
I know plenty of people that have divorced parents and are wonderful people. My role model has divorced parents and is the nicest person i have ever met and gets along wonderfully with both of her parents now. Lance armstrong's mother has had two divorces and he came out pretty well.
So my question is, what am I not understanding? Why do parents think that it is better to continuously fight than to get a divorce?
