lets think about this for a moment:
-in our curriculum they only teach us stuff about america. they dont talk a whole lot about stuff that happens or happened in other continents.
-the reason so many countries know so much about the USA is because it is in their curriculum, I doubt many of them would know as much about us if it wasnt shoved down their throats
-even if we want to learn about other cultures, it's hard to find any outlets to learn from
-most radio stations are in english, or spanish so we can't really listen to "non-american music" when we dont have anywhere to hear it from
-you have to get cable or satellite JUST to get channels that aren't in english. in basic cable most channels are in english and only about two or three are in spanish. and even when you do get a lot of channels they only show so much about other shows from other countries
-our news isn't that good. the only time we hear anything that happens in other countries is when some city gets bombed. that and many of us only speak two languages at most. if lets say I wanted to know what was going on in france, id have to speak french to read the french news.
-if we want to watch foreign movies its hard to find a place to watch them from(netflix and video rentals are very very limited)
so even IF we went out of our way to "expand our horizons" it is still very hard to learn about other cultures when our outlets are limited and only bring about so much. so shouldnt other countries give us a break already? if our history and such wasnt shoved down their throats they wouldnt know jack **** about us either.
