I was in the pub the other day and overheard a conversation between a couple of ex cons who were drug dealers they were saying that when ever they get caught the amount of drugs they thought they had only ever seems to be half the amount mentioned in court.I did apologise to them for listening to their conversation but asked why they never mentioned this in court at which point they took umbrage and said do not be stupid.
well these fellows looked a bit ruff and ready so i left it at that point and thought i would ask you why these people do not stick up for their rights?
I did consider that the police may throw the other half away as the sentence may be shorter for these fellows hence keeping the overcrowded prison population down or were just being thoughtful and really liked these people

I was reading this seriously until I got to the part where you said the cops probably threw them away...or that they were being nice.

Baby.... honey....sweetie...Missing evidence is not THROWN away...now just where could it be?

Peace.

reporting that they had more in their possesion at the time of arrest could lead to a larger penalty. If you have 20 grams its a different conviction than if they had 1 lb

Because you get more trouble for it :) You have to let them say as they wish and do as they wish or you'll have them on your back constantly.
I know of a situation when there was a roadside FULL body search, when asked "why didn't you ask to go the station, its your right?" the reply was "and annoy them even more, no thanks".
Police & the law can make your life a misery if you don't do as they wish. IT is a VERY corrupt system.

EDIT, do you mean the court said they had more?

Their insinuating the cops kept half of it for themselves, if they were to mention in court, their incriminating themselves and when they get out of jail--lets just say things could get really tough, even for the ruff guy

The way you've worded it, " the amount of drugs they thought they had only ever seems to be half the amount mentioned in court " makes it sound like the court is charging them for possession of twice as much as they actually had.

Why they wouldn't argue against that I couldn't say. Maybe they didn't want to bother fighting if they knew they were going to go to jail anyway?

By the way, what is umbrage?
