Why do news stations lie?

I just watched a News report on CNN and i watched the same story on FOX and i noticed that some of the things the reporters covered were either misrepresented or just plain wrong and they had different facts. I want to know Why? Why lie to a nation that already relies to heavily on media?
 
here's the list of reasons
1. no one knows what really happen so each station has their own interpretation
2. heavy exaggeration ( yellow journalism) to make it sound more visual/ interesting
3. They can't say the same "exact" words so instead of saying someone was run over , they say some one was hit by a car , or mowed down by a truck , each getting farther from the truth
