why do my subwoofers smell bad??`?

i recently put 2 12" pioneer subs that max out at 800 watts each...i have a 1600 watt rockford fosgate amplifier hooked up to it, and when i turn in on it starts to smell, it only does this when i turn it up to about volume level 15-20. why does it smell like that??
 
It could be because Pioneer speakers are crap.

Stick with Rockford-Fosgate.
 
it could be the residual glue burning off the woofers.

it could also be because the amp gain, bass boost, or head unit volume is too high.
