Why do my portrait backgrounds look yellow?

Whenever I do a photo shoot I use a completely white backdrop, but when I bring the photos onto the computer the background looks yellow. Why is this and how can I fix it?
Is there something that I can do when actually taking the pictures to make the background white/seamless?
