why do my hands keep going numb, i wake up in the morning and have no feelig in them at all, and through the day i get a pins and needles feeling

I'm not sure if this is your problem or not. I just got done posting to someone else about the same thing. Could it be you need to visit a chiropractor? Your neck being out could cause the numbness in the hands and it can travel up the arms too. Might want to see if that is what you need to have done. Cheap and effective. I get this when my neck is out of alignment.

this could be what the above poster mentioned or it could be a problem within the wrists too(jobs with repetitve motion are usually involved with this). but in most cases with bilateral types of symptoms which you are having,the best possible place to start would be up in your neck, in that c spine area. an MRI of your c spine would simply show something like a possible herniation that could be compressing both sides of the spinal nerves,or even stenosis could do this too if it is located in the right places(or other possible problems too). but i really would just see your doc to have this evaluated and then sent for that MRI. at least it would rule that area in or out as the problem area. does this effect the entire hand on both sides or is it more within certain fingers? does this occur ONLY when you sleep or do you feel any tingling or numbness or pain during the day or anywhere else?
if nothing that could cause your symptoms is seen on the MRI, then it would be time to have another test called an EMG? this checks for nerve flow impairment. they would be able to tell hopefully whether this is within your wrists or some other area up your arm or even stemming from that c spine area too. i would simply set an appt with your primary to just have this evaluated and see what he or she wants to do next. but getting that MRI would be the easiest way of really seeing what could be causing this within the C spine area. that IS where it would be have to be stemming from if this is indeed a spinal issue. its just what innervates our fingers and hand. hope this is not serious,but you do need that MRI at this point to really know for certain. its a matter of ruling in or out,this particular area. please keep us posted.
