Why do my ears start to hurt when I am jogging outdoors?

I noticed last night when I was out jogging that my ears started to get sore... not the outside, but the small bones and inside my ears.

I was wearing my iPod earbuds, and tried to take them out for some relief, but this didn't totally resolve the issue.

Have any other joggers/runners experienced this?

If your route covers great changes in elevation then the pressure or lack thereof could be the problem. Try pinching your nose while simultaneously trying to push air through it. If you are covering height gradients than this could be the problem.

These buds rub against the inside of your lobes and cause pain/chaffing. I bet if you don't use them for a while it will go away.

Your ears arn't use to the wind circulation and tempature yet. As you run the more air gets into your ears and start to circulate the faster your going the more it hurts.
