Why do movies get different titles around the world?

I like that film, not the crappy version that Channel 5 shown not long ago, (cos it was badly edited for an 6pm Sunday slot), but the real '15' version with 'f's' and everything!

When I first seen it on Sky 1 back in the early 90's, it was called Adventures In Babysitting., not A Night On The Town...

One to watch out for:

My Boss's Daughter - Ashton Kucher/Tara Reid, the filmed bombed in the US so it will get a re-titleing for the UK in the hope that no one will know what it is.
 
I can't remember, but I know that it was on after The Simpsons, so it went out at around 8pm-ish completely uncut, which was nice! I definetly know that the episode of The Simpsons was the one where Bart visited the nuclear plant on a school trip, after which Homer was fired, and then tried to kill himself. It's still on tape somewhere in the cupboard, ... or did I tape over it?!
