Why do most people claim that after you join the military you're going to die?

Death is, unfortunately, a big part of combat. There is no guarantee that you will be killed in the line of duty, but there is always a possibility.

If you are joining I wish you the best of luck and thank you for your service. The same goes for your friends.
 
I just don't get it! I have a few friends who are in the Army and one in the MArines but they aren't dead. Why do some people see the Military as a form of suicide?
