school shootings on atheism? User Mike's answer to the linked question is a perfect example:

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20081008143427AAvMM1y&pa=FZB6NXXtFWMW0cLWwegZ9Ug6jEW9Q6UJZcC4ixR9l2HVu.CuORg-&paid=add_watch

And we've all seen this here, in the media, and in real life. Please don't dodge the question.
Haven't, but I will, Doc ;P

That's probably because there were no school shootings when "gun culture" was the norm.

that has been the way of religion for a long time. taking credit for good things and blaming the pupulus for the bad ones.
if it was a rainy year, god be praised.
if it was a bad one, you were bad and a virgin is to be sacrificed, or the people have sinned etc.

it's this use of guilt and feeling of inadequacy created by priests that has been the tool of religion for ever.

what?

since when does anyone support a "gun culture".
There are many who support the right to bear arms... but the "gun culture" you speak of is quite far removed from your average hunter to happens to own a few rifles.

I don't know anyone who blames shcool shootings on atheism either.
User Mike is obviously a bone head.

Good question. They also are anti abortion, pro capital punishment and pro war. Very contradictory and hypocritical if you ask me. So, it's like don't kill the babies, give them a chance for us to kill them in the prison system, while hunting or in the next war we send them to.

They just want to blame everything bad on us. It's their way of making themselves look superior to everyone else. Not all Christians do that, though.

Also, if I see very many more Christians talk about how atheists are the violent ones, I may have to start listing the names of all the notorious serial killers who were devout Christians. Like the BTK killer, for example.

Well, all the school shootings we've seen so far have been done by atheists.
Christians usually respect the U.S. Constitution, which gives us a right to possess firearms, for hunting, personal protection, etc., although I'm sure the original intent was to allow the populace to defend themselves against a government gone haywire.
Atheistic governments are very much anti-gun, because they want to be able to easily control the populace without any interference.

They like guns and enjoy hunting and target shooting etc. That is okay, by the way, the law protects that right.

But they are not big on responsibility. They oppose gun control. They must have a gun right away, no background check.

When guns are used for harm, and murder, someone else must be blamed. Atheists, liberals, the elite, Hollywood or whoever. It can never be the fault of the gun culture.

gee...could it have anything to do with them violent video games that some people turn role play into reality???

where I went to school it was normal for the farm kids to have the truck to drive to school and the gun rack was loaded with1or2 guns for hunting, that is where we kept them...the trucks parked in the school parking lot while everyone is in class....no one thought any thing bad or did anything bad...the trucks were not locked, probably didn't have locks..

we take offense at this finger pointing toward farmers and hunters who feed their family....you are blaming them for something they know nothing about... those RPG games are dangerous....

Because if a christian shoots a gun, god sends an angel to stop or divert the bullet before it can strike an innocent person.

America's gun culture does not include shooting up schools, which yes, were the acts of stupid atheists who probably spent too much time online listening to other stupid atheists.

Should food be banned because some people are fat?

Should tylenol be banned because some people take the whole bottle to commit suicide?

Atheists confuse me, they talk about how religion "controls" them, but run to the government to implement more control because of fear.
Who are you voting for? The guy who likes big government, or the guy who likes small government?

There is no solid foundation to your beliefs, you make them up as you go along, and that's why your beliefs, not ours, will have people in chains.

I agree. I am basically liberal, but I support guns to some extent. I think that people would be less violent and dangerous if they were properly trained on how to use guns.

I am an atheist though, and I hate when people blame suicide and murder on the non-religious.

Why don't you blame Ford or Chevy next time some drunk gets behind the wheel and kills someone.......Oh, he didn't mean to do it. He was drunk. It wasn't his fault, It was the car companies fault for making a vehicle for him to drive.......Nobody is responsible for their actions anymore. They always have to blame it on someone or something else......Blame spoons for someone being fat...... I am a conservative Christian and I don't blame Atheists for school shootings, I blame Satanic cult members for it. Atheists aren't supposed to have any religion at all.

Those shootings have NOTHING to do with Atheism, sadly there is a 'Fundamentalist Christian element' that promote the use of as well as the right to carry guns!.

In all honesty I think most people blame the school shootings on kids who have been the victims of bullying. However, I have heard a lot of people saying they wouldn't have happened if God was still in the schools. I think that's a load of baloney. I imagine the kids who bully were bullied themselves, most likely by their God-fearing parents. It's really sad to see the way some kids are treated by their parents--I have a student who on her own went to our principal and told him she didn't want to go home because her parents hadn't paid the water bill in 9 months and they'd been without water for 6 months. (fortunately she's getting to go live with an aunt) Between crap like that and the parents who totally ignore their kids, it's no wonder we have some angry kids out there. Stepping off the soapbox now. :)

The same reason they try to associate Barak Obama with terrorist activity that occurred when Obama was 8 years old.

Probably by the same logic that dictates they eat at Burger Christ while blaming global warming on cow farts.

Not all gun enthusiasts are Christians, and there are many Christians who are against guns.

I've never heard anyone blame school shootings on Atheism. What I have noticed is that many of the shooters are lonely, depressed people (usually males) who are bullied and/or ignored by the rest of the students. Guns are thought of as a "type" of power--also a quick means of suicide afterward. The shootings are the student's last desperate attempt to be noticed.

In my opinion, what is to blame is the school caste-system that divides students into groups of accepted and unaccepted people. While teachers and parents make an effort to teach children to be tolerant and accepting of people of other races, religions, etc., they should also teach them to be accepting of people of different social statuses.
