Why Do Masonry Drill Bits Have a Blob Of Paint on the End?

Does anyone know for certain, rather than just supposing?
Cheers.
Can't see how it's to protect it. For two reasons - fristly, wood work drills don't have the paint, so why just masonry drills; and secondly, a masonry drill is for drilling into stone, so I presume it's quite tough already and a few microns of paint aren't going to significantly help.

Cheers anyway, but please only answer if you know for certain. No guesses, please!
