It's more a statement to say how bad the crime really was!

It's like, you're doing life, but if you were immortal, you would get out in 845 years.

I think it's to make absolutely sure they never get paroled. Some people serve half their sentence or less and get paroled...that'll never happen with lengthy sentences.

They do this because each sentence has a mininum time. The total in mininum would be enough to keep them in prison for the rest of their lives with these convictions

well if that's what all the charges add up to be then that's how long they get sentenced for
