three times now on two different bikes this has happened-i finish a small trip-usually around 10-15 miles and i set my bike down. the next morning, i wake up and my tube is flat.
i figured out that there are either punctures or straight-up rips near the part of the tube where the stem meets the inflatable portion. when that happens, if i flick the stem air comes rushing out until it returns to its original position.
the second bike i just got today and the seller assured me that those tubes and tires were still new. and whats more, he was a crazy ultra mondo biker guy who did all of his bike work himself. i know he knew what he was doing. .i took it on a small trip on a beautifully paved bike trail-no potholes or stickers.
i am wondering if i am too fat for this kind of bike. i weigh 285...a couple times i shifted my weight foward on the bike which caused the front tire to sort of ultra pressurize under my weight. this bike is a little more squeezed in than my old one so i felt like i was going to go over the front when this happened. maybe after doing that two or three times accidentally the tube reached its limit???
but that guy also said that the tubes were extra thick, and the tires were quality ones. it is kind of a thin size. its 1 x 27...i am used to 1 1/4 x 27.
thats also my other question-i need to ride tomorrow, so right now i have a 1 1/4 on the fron and a 1x27 on the back. will there be any adverse effect tomorrow morning when i go riding?
by the way,its a shogun mangaloy 2001 frame,i have 36 spokes on weinman wheels with a recently re-done hub, and national tire company tires. i just also realized that the wheels are 1 1/4 but the tires are one inch. the bike is set up for these skinny tires on rims that seem to be too big...is that common practice???
what can i do about all this??? this bike seemed like a major upgrade from my stock univega but now i am starting to wonder???
