You may have acid reflux. It commonly causes an irritation in the esophagus that the body tries to heal by creating mucus to protect the irritated area. The throat clearing is your body's attempt to get rid of the excess mucus that is being produced in your esophagus.

You might try taking something for acid reflux, like Losec, for a couple of weeks to see if the throat clearing improves.

For the past couple months I have had the feeling to clear my throat throughout the day. Mucous seems to be present in my throat, yet I can't clear it out. It is annoying as anything!

I've been on prilosec (20mg) per day. I'm not sure its helping.

Hi Naomi, I too have the same thing. I was diagnosed a week ago with Gerd, and some days it isnt too bad, other days i am choking on mucus and clearing my throat constently!

It does get pretty annoying. I am on Zantac 200 in the morning, and Nexium 40 at night and i am about to call the doctor to try and get in sooner than febuary (which is hard with the specialist). I also have a hiatal hernia probably(not sure when im gettign the endoscopy yet) but idk if that makes it any worse.

Hang in there!
