Why do I get so winded when I run, but not when I do other activities?

I can't even run a block at 6.7 kph (4.2 mph) without feeling like my lungs are on fire, but I can get my heart rate up over 200 while on the elliptical trainer and barely be puffing and I can do hard biking for 3 hours and still be able to go for more. What's the deal??
I was running on a treadmill in a gym, in the same place I was using the elliptical trainer. And 6.7 kph is really not fast at all, I can walk it if I have it set at 6.4 kph.
