Why do I always have to change my location for the Local News on the Yahoo home page?

On the Yahoo home page, when I click Local, it always has some area of California selected. I have to change my location by entering my zip code. It used to ask me for my zip code first. Is there a reason now it assumes I'm located in California? I live on the opposite side of the country.
