Why do Honda drivers brag about VTEC so much?

I hear it every day. Idiots bragging about their Vtec kicking in! It isn't that amazing, and the non-vtec motors, while much slower, are more reliable.

There are two types of VTEC-performance vtec which is RARE and ECONOMY vtec which is what almost ALL of them have. Economy vtec is on the intake cam only..it has a fuel sipping cam for low rpms and a standard cam for midrange. Most civics have this. The REAL VTEC (rsx-s, nsx, s2000) has differing cam lobes for both intake AND exhaust. They have a standard lobe and a performance lobe that kicks in at like 5800RPM on the RSX-S. VVTI is a comparable to economy vtec. Its a joke. Toyota needs 2.4 liters in your camry to make what 160hp? Hondas been making 240HP out of 2.0 liters over a decade ago on the S2000. Toyota makes an appliance, Honda makes (some) driver's cars.
It's because VTEC engines are the sh*t and it's the best motor to have for a Honda. I drive a 2000 Honda Prelude and it has an H22 2.2L VTEC engine and it's badass especially when you get into high rpms. They are just fun to drive and have a great sound when you get going and VTEC is where it's at if you own a Honda. Toyota Camrys suck so no wonder he doesn't get excited about it but if you owned a Honda that had a VTEC engine then you would know why people get hyped over it and you would understand if you heard how great they sound when it gets going. Get a Prelude and maybe you would understand why, make sure it's a 5th gen though. Good luck!
Well they brag over it because basically Honda's a REALLY good Car make you should buy and it's not one of those normal engines.Also I own a Honda Accord V-tec and a Toyota Sienna VVT-I also.
They also think their cool just because they bought one of the best engines but you can usually find an Accord at a dealer 2011 for about $12,000 which is a V-tec engine also.Hope this helped.

Why? Because they lack the ability to realize nearly every manufacturer these days has some form of variable valve timing and/or variable ignition timing.
It's just the most talked about because Honda introduced the system early and cheaply into small compact cars everyone could afford unlike other manufacturers who only installed their variation of it in their higher end cars in the past. Also because every high schooler (and Fast & Furious wannabe's) who own a Honda with VTEC thinks they have the fastest car in the world so all they talk about is VTECH, V-TEC, VTAK, VTEK, VTEKKKKKKKKKKKKK.
Quite annoying and it gives me and countless other real Honda enthusiasts a bad reputation we're forced to deal with. All in all though, with all the years and research behind it Honda has made a very reliable, cost effective, powerful, and smart variable valve timing system capable of power from such a small engine others can't possibly match.
