Why do Harley Davidson sound like they are falling apart?

I was driving a few days ago and two motorcycles passed me. One was BMW that made an great efficient sporty sound the other one was a Harley Davidson that you could hear from blocks away as if it was leaving part behind on the road as it pass me,

Every year at our county fair they have a display of real old engines and they run the things all day. Alot like the harleys. That is the sound of an unmuffled antique. Not falling apart, just obnoxious and primitive after the novelty wears off.

They sound that way because the rods share a common crank journal which gives them an uneven firing cycle, whereas the BMW flat twin is an even firing motor. Rest assured; a Harley V2 engine will outlive most Japanese motorcycle engines.

Another reason is that the sound from the harley engine gets distorted and echos when passing through the stones of that bridge you dwell under.

They sound that way because they're falling apart. A cop who went undercover in a Harley-oriented club wrote that right at first, when the had to ride in the rear of the group, he was in more danger of being killed by parts falling off the other Harleys then by gunshot.

go back to your hole troll,Ever thought that lower tech is maybe better? H.D.is proof! How many jap bikes from the 40s,50s,and 60s do you see on the road? I see old Harley's still puttin along EVERY DAY! I have 1961 panhead chopper that will still be running when all these new bikes are recycled into beer cans.
