I exercise my freedom of choice. That's all there is to it.
I do this, as well as other things, simply because others won't.
Our rights and freedoms, if not defended, will be lost. Some are gone as I write this, others not yet. But they will be gone soon. The writing is on the wall, and the best these guys can come up with is "image".
BS on top of BS. One guy says the military won't pay - he's more than likely right. But the truth is he's right for the wrong reason. The military has strict rules. Damaging oneself in any manner is grounds for prosecution. They call it "destruction of Government property", and even a good sunburn is cause.

My viewpoint is the same as before I started riding a Harley.

I am not saying that they ALL don't wear helmets. But here in Wisconsin, I have noticed that the Harley crowd tends to not wear helmets more often than riders on other bikes.

I am looking for theories as to why this could be.

They're under the mistaken impression that their loud pipes will save their lives.

the general idea as to why they don't:
they ride on back roads, less traveled, and at a moderate speed

where they can enjoy the bike ride,

They think they are immune to physics, and they don't go fast enough to crash hard anyway.

Helmet laws BITE, we don't wear them because we don't want to. You cant see, hear, and they are distracting as all get out. Have you ever had a bee get stuck inside your helmet? I have no fun at all. When the laws says I don't have to wear one I don't.
