why do guys like girls that are hard to get.. politeness?

whenever i'm polite to a guy and keep it real as possible, i feel they don't appreciate it and kind of turn them off. and when i'm not needy of a guy, not bothered and seem hard to get they'll be interested

fair enough if a guy does, it is what it is.. but why do most guys go for that type?
