Why do gays view being banned from the military as a "bad" thing?

Being in the military is a rough life. Getting up at 5am doing push ups. risking your safety in combat.
Why do they want in the military anyway?

Back when there was a draft.........people could get out of the military by claiming they're gay. Claiming that they are gay would save them from dying in war.

If the draft were to be reinstated.............."Don't ask Don't tell" would save peoples' lives. It would save people from dying in war.
"Don't ask Don't tell" is draft insurance.

I saw a show on the History Channel about a gay guy getting killed in his room while he was in the Army. I thought "Don't ask, Don't tell" was just stating that gay people can't say they are gay and others can ask someone if they are gay, but are still drafted.

we don't find it bad we find it offensive. I honestly don't care I'm gay and the military does'nt even make the list of things i want to do. Chances are there is not gonna be another draft but if there is like you said im gay so im outta there.

Believe it or not, some people like being in the military, for various reasons. And not all go into combat. I knew a lot of gay people in the military, who were scared to death of being kicked out. They were proud to serve and like what they did for their MOS, the same as many straight people. Statistically there were more gays in the military than in the civilian population.

I like the ban. If I ever get drafted I could just tell them that I am gay and they will be forced to kick me out.

If they are gay then they could just tell people that they are straight. Not all of us like to kill people.
