I've studied much of Yiruma's music and I even take much influence from him. I love his use of melody, phrasing, and sometimes even his common chord progressions. I have much frustration and respect from the infamous inconsistency he uses in many of his pieces. He has composed songs ranging from the styles of New Age, to Jazz, Some are even comparable to the styles such as American Classical. He expresses his emotions and his inspiration is effectively spoken through his music. So why do Music Theorist speak so negative of him. I understand that "River Flows In You" is intensely simple, I did learn it in 3 days, and I'm not a good sight reader. And after a couple weeks it gets boring to play. But that's not the only song he has composed. So tell me, why do you all speak so negatively of him?
No I'm not just another fan, I've been studying piano for 11 years, and I've been studying Music Theory for 5 years, so please don't hold back. Don't condenscend, and please explain to me exactly what is wrong because obviously I haven't studied long enough to know. That's why I'm going to school for it.
