Why do Democrats keep complaining about Republicans stalling the health care debate?

Why do the Democrats keep complaining about Republicans stalling the so called "Health Care debate"?
If they are tired of Republicans "stalling" the debate then why not just put their bills to a vote and see if they pass? The Democrats had a filibuster proof House and Senate for an entire year, down to the exact day almost, and they still could not pass the bill. They could have overridden every single Republican and passed the bill anyway. Now that they no longer are able to overcome a filibuster they want to whine and complain. Why? You should have just passed the bill when you had the chance. You guys have already made it abundantly clear that you don't care how the American people feel about it, because you feel like the government is supposed to be in a "parent" type role and do what's best for us, even if we don't want it.

And didn't you guys try to obstruct almost ever bill that Bush and Republicans put into power when he was elected and when he was elected again for a second term?

The Democrat strategy here is to try to get a compromise version of Obamacare since they no longer have the votes to get a full-fledged government takeover of medical care and insurance. But why should Republicans (clearly representing the majority opinion in the nation) sign on for a less bad bill rather than holding out for a real solution?

Here are the elements of a real solution to rising health care costs:

1. Protect providers of medical care from punitive damages and unreasonable lawsuits by real tort reform. Of course, the Democrats depend on trial lawyers for their contributions and probably would stall there.

2. Allow portability of health care plans so that your coverage can travel with you when you change employers.

3. Coupled with this, allow competition for your health insurance dollars. When insurance companies compete, we win. Again, the Democrats won't like these plans because they do not demonize and regulate insurance companies, e.g., by requiring them to insure against conditions people already have.

Since there is no good compromise between a massive government takeover and a free market solution, stalling isn't necessarily a bad tactic, especially given the likelihood that the American people will elect a Republican majority in at least one house of Congress come November, protecting themselves again further depredations of our freedom.

Cheers,
Bruce

Democrats rarely take responsibility for their own failures. They almost always blame somebody else. Anybody with any sense knows that if the democrats had a clue what they were doing they could have passed anything they wanted due to their super majority. They screwed up and aren't mature enough to admit it.

The democrats lost their super majority because they angered the voters with their incompetence and arrogance.

Democrats do not want to take the blame for the cost of the program and the huge tax burden.
They wanted Republicans to point at, so they could say that "they voted for it too"!

Democrats are allergic to facts. They run away from the truth.

They always have to blame somebody else for their own failures.

Lying and fraud are a way of life for Democrats.

Who would want such criminals to be in charge of our country?

Because their liberal media doesn't tell them that there ARE Republican healthcare bills but that Pelosi won't let them come to the floor for debate. They don't want to hear that all those backroom deals with Obama and Pelosi and Reid locked Republicans out. That's their idea of bipartisan--take what the Democrats want and vote for it. How do they expect cooperation in an atmosphere like that?

In my life since i started watching Politics i noticed a Pattern with Democrats ever since after JFK and that is this idea of Government knows whats best . The more light that showed on their health plan the darker it looked. And they really started there blame game when almost every town Hall meeting had the public shouting them down. It got so bad that they brought in Union thugs to attack protesters in ST.Louis, and tried there best to make it appear a bunch of older white Americans attacked the Black thugs they had sent to the meeting. The more they cried the more there socialist true colors showed and Pelosi and Harry Reid kept up the banter against the people trying to blame the opposition, and in some cases threatening members of their own party. I had heard more than once, former citizens of communist ruled countries comparing the tactics of Democrats with the Communist in there former countries.

they are socialist that want to use a socialist health care system that is literally killing people in socialist countries.

My uncle recently had a heart attack and he lives in Australia which uses a system similar to the health care bill. He was stuck in the waiting room and almost died while waiting for surgery. In the US he would have been rushed into the surgery room no questions asked. Sadly that will not keep going if this bad idea goes through.

The Democratic party is not nearly homogeneous as the Republican party. This makes their "filibuster-proof majority" not so filibuster-proof. There are several Blue Dog Democrats in the Senate that remain far more socially conservative than the rest of their party. Issues like abortion pertain to the health-care debate and can derail any hopes of pushing through significant legislation. Since the Democratic Party is a diverse organization, it possesses a wider array of demands, often contradictory, that need to be fulfilled to please all Representatives, Senators, and their respective constituents.

I think many Americans do want reform in health-care, but this legislation has been compromised to such an extent that it is difficult for advocates of either end of the spectrum to be enthused about. It's going to upset people who want limited government, and it's going to upset people that want a system that resembles that of England, France, Canada, etc. I worry that reforming health-care to require citizens to purchase plans while not providing a at least a government option is just asking for a cartel or at least puts the insurance and the pharmaceutical industries in an inappropriately advantageous position.

The Democratic majority in Congress didn't take effect until 2007, following the 2006 mid-term elections. It wasn't just Democrats that blocked Bush's agenda at the time. Many Republicans, worried about maintaining their seat in Congress, were distancing themselves from President Bush because his approval ratings were in the basement, going as far as to turn down his appearance at campaign rallies.

It seems that you are painfully oblivious to not only Joseph Lieberman but also the Blue Dog Dems? Your low level of information does not surprise me in the least. Learn the facts and try again.

Filibuster? Sure, buddy.

no. the repubs. got what Bush wanted, and that was war, to fill the military corpoate bill-fold of the war mongers, they own health care already, just start war, and the republican hospitals and insurance companies have a pay day, drug companies make more because of war pain and repair of broken bodies, farmers and agra. processors dump more energy sugar and fat foods on the people, so the hospitals have more patient's ,more industrial jobs, more oil for bigger trucks, bigger planes, and more pollution for us to clean up,..... ah, cleanup, thats where the slaves come in, and any other democrats that can fix it, that is the humble ones, the caring side

It's none of your business. Isn't this America? We hold the right to our opinions and don't need to explain anything to you.
