Perhaps you lost the political statement contained in Obama's address.
The statement is simple and long overdue : you kids are no longer yours they are increasingly becoming the wards of Federal government. Feds already provide kids with federally funded education including preschool ($100 billion in porkulus alone), school lunches, health care (SKIMP), welfare check, food stamps. More that 50% your children receive not from their parents (well, actually FROM their parents, albeit indirectly through tax-and-steal-and-redistribute-leftovers scheme) but from Feds.
Obama simply made the last logical step : we provide for your kids, so from now we are in charge of their values too. Why complain?
