Honestly.. i dont know too much about Greek Life, but upon reading up on it.. and such ive come to wonder.. why it is that academic institutions would promote these so called "sororities" and "fraternities" that seemed to be based on ostricization and Gang signs. i mean.. if they are doing any sort of community service activities or raising money, why don't they call it a community service group? i mean.. how did this all get started..
i am very curious.. because i was always confused by why schools would want to endorse the drinking and partying and peer pressure associated with greek life.
can someone explain this to me?
do some colleges actually think this is a bad idea?
O.. and i know it says it promotes life long friends too..
than why do they have the whole "bidding" process.. where they selectively chose who they will recruit based on personality.
that seems a little wrong in my book.
doesnt that kind of .. diminish the whole idea of treating everyone as an equal.? and why is it that schools have no problem with this kind of thing?
i mean.. i can see community service and organizations as healthy..
but the whole gang sign letter thing.. representing and pledging and all that seems a little juvenile..
