Why do college counselors tell art and social science students misleading things...

...regarding career prospects? They lump all bachelors degrees together and make the claim that you will make a million more dollars if you get one! In reality though a bachelors in a social science or art (not including econ or something realistic something like psychology) depending on how it is financed might actually be a very bad decision that leads to long term financial detriment.
 
i was just thinking about this the other day but more with my high school adviser. i'm a psych major and my high school advisor made it seem like once i got my bachelors i'd make tons of money when in reality i need to be in school for 8+ years to become a psychologist
 
Having a college education will always get you farther than not having one, and you'll be doing a lot better financially than if you didn't. The job market is very competitive, so only the most educated people are getting hired.
 
And counselors should also be telling a lot of students they're better off starting a trade apprenticeships than "going to college", but if they told the truth too many times they would be fired...
