Why do Christians think they do not have to follow the laws of the O.T.?

Matthew 5:17"Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.

Everything has not yet been accomplished as clear in Revelations.

Could Jesus be more obvious, that you MUST follow the Jewish Law? Take off your poly-cotton blends sinners!

Stop abusing the word fulfill like you know what it means.
 
We do follow the LAWS, but jesus was sent for a new beginning and a new understanding to bring us on a more personal level. Fire and brimstone wasn't working.
 
You only miss one point here, there is a difference between Jewish Law and Torah. Christians should follow Torah. Jewish Law consists of Torah and of Talmuds and midrashes that intrepet Torah.

Here's why most nominal Christians do not follow Torah:

2 Peter 3:14 For this reason, my loved ones, as you are looking for these things, take great care that when he comes you may be in peace before him, free from sin and every evil thing.
15 And be certain that the long waiting of the Lord is for salvation; even as our brother Paul has said in his letters to you, from the wisdom which was given to him;
16 And as he said in all his letters, which had to do with these things; in which are some hard sayings, so that, like the rest of the holy Writings, they are twisted by those who are uncertain and without knowledge, to the destruction of their souls.
17 For this reason, my loved ones, having knowledge of these things before they take place, take care that you are not turned away by the error of the uncontrolled, so falling from your true faith.

To fulfill the law appears at first to mean a literal enforcement of the law in the least detail: until heaven and earth pass away nothing of the law will pass. Yet the "passing away" of heaven and earth is not necessarily the end of the world understood, as in much apocalyptic literature, as the dissolution of the existing universe. The "turning of the ages" comes with the apocalyptic event of Jesus' death and resurrection, and those to whom this gospel is addressed are living in the new and final age, prophesied by Isaiah as the time of "new heavens and a new earth"

Meanwhile, during Jesus' ministry when the kingdom is already breaking in, his mission remains within the framework of the law, though with significant anticipation of the age to come, as the following antitheses (Matthew 5:21-48) show.

in the christian world the old testament law still applies in conduct but not to be the way of salvation - you don't follow the ten commandments to get into heaven but they should be the guidelines for the code of conduct for the Christian. for this reason faith in the works of christ Jesus are the criteria for salvation for our righteous deeds are but filthy rags in the sight of God - so our deeds of keeping the law - the Jewish law - are not what justifies us but the sacrifice of Jesus and the faith of that is what justifies us and saves us.
 
Jesus and the New Testament are the fulfillment of the Old Testament. think about it: would you really understand the NT without the OT? like the story of creation, and how sin came into the world, which is why Jesus came-- to save us from original sin.
also, be specific when you say 'christians believe..' cuz their are hundreds of denominations with different beliefs
 
the people who wrote the new testement must not have liked jews...its all political .
