Why do Christians assume that all atheists have a degree in physical cosmology and

Indeed

evolutionary biology? Christians must assume this since they keep asking atheists to explain all the intricacies about evolution and the Big Bang. Wouldn't their questions be better received if they asked this in the science section where actual specialists can lay it all out of them? Or are they afraid?

Christians are encouraged by the Bible to study and know why they believe what they believe.

Many atheists seem to think that their beliefs are exclusively backed by science and reason. So now when Christians respond with science, we are once again criticized.

The reason it's in the R/S section is because most of the questions directed against Christians are attacks against the reliability of the Bible (often the creation account). So Christians are forced to educate themselves on the scientific facts. Notably, only a few atheists try to use science to support their views - the rest try to elevate their position by attacking the Bible.

If an atheist attacks the Bible on the basis of scientific assumption, they can hardly complain when a Christian answers on the basis of science fact. And why shouldn't we challenge atheists about these assumptions? Are atheists afraid of the science? We are on R/S to discuss religion and spirituality. It is not our job to assume that you are uneducated about your own beliefs.
