Why do certain families not dance?

On 18 Kids in Counting it says that the Duggar's do not dance as a rule.
Why is that? I think it might have something to do with their religious beliefs.
I do not understand how someone could shun such a big part of the Arts.
?

dancing is considered something that entices sexual activity and is therefore not allowed in many religious sects, not limited to certain christian groups. the Arts are not what is a focus of importance to most religions because it it a "worldly" thing, not a "godly" thing.

Some faiths view dancing as appealing to human desire. The time spent making yourself feel good could be used doing work given to you by your creator, for example. The same applies to music. I took an early music course and learned that in early churches (I think even some today), playing more than one note at a time was demonic.

Many conservative sects like Mennonite or Quakers thought that dance and song lead to pleasures of the flesh.

Sad, isn't it?

I think they believe that "music is the gateway drug that leads to dancing, which leads to touching, which leads to kissing, which leads to premarital sex."

Did you see 'Foot loose" staring Kevin Bacon. It will answer your question.
Unfortunately most places you go to dance people drink and some get drunk. That's the kind of dancing they think wrong.
Ballet, or choreography, or liturgical dance may not be forbidden.
