Why do cats go so crazy over fish food?

I have two cats and a tank full of tropical fish at home, and whenever my cats get a sniff of the fish's flaked food, they go wild and behave as if they'd like to eat some. I've never let them have any though, obviously. I'm just curious as to why cats like the smell so much.
Any ideas?
