Why do atheists put down religions and at the same time enjoy entertainment...

...about supernatural stuff? Atheists always seem to talk about logical, and then at the same time they love reading books about vampires, angels, aliens, atheists love fairy tales, they love studying fancy in creative stuff, they love flocking to the museums in Europe to watch many paintings and sculptures based on biblical stories, atheists like Harry Potter and watching the ghost stories and alien stories on the history channel.

Can someone explain this to me? Do people naturally have an attraction to things that are supernatural?

Because religions are man-made fictional stories. Just look at the evidence and the history. The real problem is that people make laws and judgments based on them.

As an atheist, I find there is a line between religion and supernatural. I believe that no god(s) exist, but i believe that we all have a spirit in us,, and that when we die, that is our physical vessel breaking. our spirit lives on, and that is what we refer to as ghosts and demons. i think that to believe in religion is to believe in a higher power, an all-powerful person. to believe in the supernatural is different. Also, who doesn't enjoy reading fiction now and then?

The point is when I watch "The Exorcist" or "Supernatural", I know it is a work of fiction. It becomes a problem when people actually start to believe it is real.

There is a series on TV called "Supernatural" it is crap and I have watched two episodes..

There was a series on TV about a teenage girl who slayed vampires - it was crap, I watched about fifteen minutes in all of it, enough to tell that.

Stargate stuff is drivel - I don't watch it, I did watch about 5 episodes of the early series.

I don't have the History Channel or any Fox precisely because of the trash on the History channel and I don't want that slime Rupert Murdoch's hands in my pocket taking my money for garbage I don't need. He can die in a fire for all I care.

As for the exploits of the mythical Master Potter, they are well made movies. Any well made movie is OK to watch but I'm not going to bother getting the books. Any well made craft and / or art is worth looking at, does not matter what the subject is.

1) usually its the religious folks who have problems with these things, because the fundies see them as blasphemous.
2) the older i get, the more i get bothered by the ongoing fight in entertainment of "good" vs "evil"
3) if you want to see people get excited about the supernatural- go to church
4)even atheists have had paranormal/ufo encounters...which proves these things are much more real than gods, because we've seen proof.
5)alternate and parallel universes are almost fact nowadays in the science world, with ever increasing evidence. religions increasing evidence? none.
this far more explains ghosts and spirits than demons and angels.
6)religion shapes the world around us. including the art scene.
etc
