Why do atheists act so bad and bold but they always try to convert on their deathbed?

I have heard so many stories of atheists who were so proud and so sure that there was no God and preached that to so many people, but when they are about to die, they cry out for God and want to believe now. Im sure about 90% of atheists do this. Explain this to me,
EXACTLY! nobody can give me a straight answer. That shows me alot
