Humans, with respect to having a natural environment, can be looked at as a "super-adapter". Many (if not most) animals are adapted to live in certain niches: A prairie dog in the open meadows of the west, loons in northern cooler climates, Scarlet Macaws in tropical rainforests. Humans, as well as rats, feral cats, some species of deer, and lots of species of invasive plants (like phragmites) have adapted to live almost anywhere and everywhere. Because we are able to so greatly modify the natural environment to suit us, we can live in deserts, tropical rainforests, savannahs, and even the high arctic.
